RumFire Poʻipū Beach + Lava’s on Poʻipū Beach
Our Partnership
What could possibly be better than a warm, sunny day on the Pacific Ocean aboard one of Holo Holo Charter’s streamlined catamarans, cruising the shimmering blue waters along the serene Nāpali Coastline? Ending it with a FREE DESSERT beachfront at either RumFire Poʻipū Beach or Lava’s on Poʻipū Beach at the Sheraton Kauaʻi Resort in Kōloa! That’s right, join any of our daily charters and receive a voucher for a FREE dessert at the nearby Sheraton Kauaʻi Resort.
We’ve partnered with the Sheraton Kauaʻi Resort, situated beachfront on the famous Poʻipū Beach, adding the “cherry on top” to a day well-spent on the water. Let me be the first to say that the views from both of these restaurants are truly unparalleled and offer some of the best restaurant views on the island.
Picture it now: you (and maybe some of your loved ones) cooling off after a beautiful Kauaʻi day, situated beachfront with your free dessert, perhaps during their Happy Hour deals (from 5:00-6:00 P.M. at both restaurants), with up close and personal oceanfront views of the golden sands and turquoise blues of the one and only Poʻipū Beach. The mesmerizing sound of the ocean and the magnetic dance of the ocean’s waves are mesmerizing and provide the perfect backdrop for relaxation.
We invite YOU, our valued guest, to a delicious (did we mention FREE?) dessert, the perfect way to end your day after exploring the waters with us. And let me tell you firsthand, these desserts are absolutely delicious and totally worth your stop!
The Desserts
RumFire Poʻipū Beach is featuring their “Baked Kauaʻi,” a scrumptious citrus cake topped with well-balanced layers of coconut ice cream and lilikoʻi pineapple sorbet. The ube (purple yam) meringue lightly engulfs the entire dessert and delicately swirls all the way to the top. When the server delivers this mouth-watering dessert, they lightly torch the meringue, delivering a toasted marshmallow explosion of flavor that perfectly ties the dessert together. I literally now dream of this ridiculously delicious dessert.
Lava’s on Poʻipū Beach is showcasing Kauaʻi’s local “Kō Bakery Carrot Cake” from Kō Bakery in Līhuʻe. Kō Bakery cakes use local island ingredients and are “infused with the spirit of aloha.” Trust me when I say that Kō Bakery has taken the traditional carrot cake to the next level with this towering slice of heaven featuring three layers each of ginger-infused carrot cake and whipped cream cheese frosting drizzled with caramel and a side of whipped cream with sliced strawberries. My mouth waters just thinking of this showstopper of a dessert.
Our Dinner at RumFire Poʻipū Beach
Whether you are a local who hasn’t dined at RumFire in a while or a visitor who’s never been, here’s your friendly nudge to get to RumFire and see what all of the hype is about. RumFire’s menu comprises locally sourced cuisine with a global flare and features Kauaʻi’s largest selection of rums from around the globe.
The first thing I noticed upon walking into RumFire was the incredible ocean and sunset views. This contemporary oceanside restaurant boasts 180-degree, up-close views of the ocean from every seat, making every seat the best seat in the house. The décor is modern, sleek, and a seamless extension of the surrounding colors of the ocean and sky.
We were warmly welcomed and promptly seated at 5:45 P.M. for our 6:00 P.M. reservation. As we walked around the elegant center bar, we were greeted by a local acoustic musician with stellar vocals who set the stage for an intimate dining experience.
Our server was attentive, prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. We were greeted with a complimentary funnel basket of tasty popcorn tossed in a RumFire Spice Recipe of Kauaʻi sea salt, lava salt, smoked paprika, garlic powder, ancho chile powder, white pepper, cumin, crushed pepper, curry powder, and brown sugar.
For our starter, we enjoyed one of our most favorite ʻahi pūpūs to date: the ʻAhi Crudo. This tantalizing dish centers around locally fresh ʻahi (yellow-fin tuna), with slices of delicious avocado, topped with candied macadamia nuts, tobiko (flying fish eggs), pink peppercorn, sea asparagus, and dollops of creamy cilantro vinaigrette. It was a perfect, well-balanced combination that satisfied all five taste buds.
Our starter was accompanied by a bright and refreshing South Shore Spritzer made with Deep Eddy Ruby Red Vodka, Mionetto Prosecco, Aperol, fresh tangerine juice, and sour. My date enjoyed a cold Kona Brewing Company “Big Wave” beer (one of many Kona Brewing and Maui beers on draft).
Choosing our main dish for dinner was tough, as many dishes were calling our names. In fact, RumFire offers two Entree Flights for just this reason. For $61, you can order the Duo (enough food for one person), which features two of the main dishes (half orders of each), and for $120, you can order the Quad (enough food for two people), featuring four of the main dishes.
We chose the Boneless Short Rib, a juicy chunk of braised short rib atop caramelized Maui Onion mashed potatoes and OK Farms vegetables and topped with a light Chardonnay cream, natural braising jus, and Lomi Lomi Tomatoes, paired nicely with a “Big Wave” beer.
For our second entree, we selected the Crab Crusted Fresh Catch featuring locally caught fresh fish (Monchong (deep sea pomfret) was on the menu that night) and asparagus, topped with lemon-Chardonnay cream and chopped tomatoes, onions, and scallions, with sticky white rice and a slice of lemon on the side, accompanied by a crisp, cold glass of Sonoma-Cutrer Chardonnay from Sonoma, CA.
Our meal ended perfectly with the infamous (once you try this dessert, I think you will agree) “Baked Kauaʻi,” our partnership dessert, and one heck of a Kauaʻi sunset to boot! We walked out of the restaurant and around the bend to the ocean just in time to watch the huge, red, blazing ball of sun sink behind the dark horizon. A night to remember, indeed.
RumFire Poʻipū Beach is located at 2440 Hoʻonani Rd., Kōloa, HI 96756, and is open Thursday through Sunday from 5:00-9:00 P.M.
Our Lunch at Lava’s on Poʻipū Beach
Truth be told, Lava’s on Poʻipū Beach has always been one of my favorite lunch spots, and the Sheraton Kauaʻi Resort has always been one of my favorite resorts on Kauaiʻi (did somebody say “staycation?”).
Steps away from the soft sand and cool waters of Poʻipū Beach, Lava’s is your classic tropical beachside bar and restaurant. Hotel guests, island visitors, and Kauaʻi locals alike can sip and dine with unbeatable ocean views. To say I was delighted to be sent “on assignment” to Lava’s is an understatement, to say the least. Well, somebody had to do it (haha!).
We arrived at 12:00 P.M and were seated at a shady, comfortable oceanfront table (every table at Lava’s has ocean views). As we perused the tempting lunch options, we were serenaded by a local musician with an incredible voice who played a mean guitar.
We started with the Coconut Shrimp, a starter containing six large, coconut-breaded shrimp served atop local greens with a side of sweet chili dipping sauce. The breaded shrimp were delightful and paired wonderfully with ice water and a Kōloa Rum Mai Tai, made with a well-rounded combination of Kōloa Gold Rum, passionfruit, OJ, pineapple, lime juice, and a Kōloa Dark Rum float, served in a cool Polynesian goblet with a chunk of fresh pineapple and a floating purple orchid.
We watched the palm trees sway and the multi-colored blue ocean waves roll in while we listened to sweet island melodies and waited for lunch. Next came the Lava’s Classic Double Burger (you can sub with a Beyond Burger if you prefer), two 4 oz Wagyu beef patties with American cheese, Bibb Lettuce, sliced Kamuela Tomato, B&B pickles, and Lava’s Secret Sauce on a toasted Brioche bun with a side of well-seasoned fries.
I opted for the Mahi Fish Tacos and would 100% do so again without hesitation. The 6 oz mahimahi was super fresh and served in two corn tortillas (flour tortillas are also available) with avocado, cilantro-lime slaw, pickled red onions, and feta cheese, along with corn tortilla chips and island salsa on the side. I could eat this, like, every day!
The encore was, of course, the Kō Bakery Carrot Cake, our featured partnership dessert. All I can say is do yourself a favor and get yourself some of this carrot cake, pronto.
Lava’s on Poʻipū Beach is located at 2440 Hoʻonani Rd., Kōloa, HI 96756, and is open every day from 7:00 A.M-9:00 P.M. Breakfast is served from 7:00-11:00 A.M., lunch is served from 11:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M, and dinner is served from 5:00-9:00 P.M.
Sometimes in life, we find that magic happens by coming together and partnering up with others. This, my friends, is one of those moments. We are stoked to partner with RumFire Poʻipū Beach and Lava’s on Poʻipū Beach to offer you a sweet extension of our gratitude and aloha! Thank you for being a part of the Holo Holo ʻohana! Now, head on over to the Sheraton Kauaʻi Resort and get yourself a slice of the magic!
